Making your own personalised Christmas cards is simple and fast thanks to online greeting card services such as Moonpig, Funky Pigeon, and Snapfish. Nowadays, there’s no need to rely on standard designs when you can create something truly unique in a matter of minutes.
The step-by-step design templates make it very easy to create your card, and you can choose from a range of designs and themes. Pick a traditional card, something funny – or a card addressed to your mum, dad, grandparents or grandkids. Just add your own text, and a photo if you want, and you can design a card that’s far more personal than the ones you’ll find in the shops.
The best part is that you don’t have to wait for the finished articles to arrive at your door, only to fuss around with stamps and get out to a post box. The cards you design online will be sent directly to your recipients as soon as you’ve finished them – although you can choose to have them sent to you if you want to deliver them by hand. There’s also the option to add flowers or a range of gifts to your order and turn a card into a present.
How to make Christmas cards
We’ll explain the process of creating a Christmas card. We’ve chosen to use Moonpig as an example but the process is similar on other websites.
Go to www.moonpig.com
Head to www.moonpig.com and create a new account, If you want to jump straight into the card design, you can wait until you’re at the checkout at the end.
If you’d prefer to design your cards via your phone or tablet, you can download an app for Apple or Android.
Click on a card
Click on a card to select it. You can browse by occasion from the menu on the left and filter by Christmas – or dozens of other options, from birthdays to get well cards to good luck.
Choose your card size
Click on a card to select it. You’ll then be prompted to choose the size you’d like: the options are Standard, Large and Giant. Then choose the number of cards of that design you want to order.
Personalise your card
Click on any text that appears on the card to edit it. You can also add your own greeting inside – on both pages if you want to send a longer message. You can change the font type, size, colour and alignment as well, but only on the text that appears in the free spaces.
Adding a photo
Many cards have the option to add one or more photos.
You start by uploading the image(s) you wish to use for the card. Click on an outline for an image, then select to upload an image from your computer or from Facebook or Instagram.
Use the options below the image to resize and move the image you have uploaded to best fit the space available, then click OK and move on to the next.
Now click on any text fields to replace the text, or you can leave it as is. Click the arrow on the right to move between pages and update items as you see fit.
Preview the card to check for mistakes
When you’ve finished, click the preview button below the image. Give it a good check: it’s all too easy to miss a typo or an area of text you haven’t filled in.
If you’re happy with what you see, click Add to basket.
Moonpig will offer you the option to send a gift alongside your card, but you can simply click Continue to check out.
You can either have the cards sent to you or directly to the recipient. Make your choice, enter an address, then go through the payment process to check out.
That’s it, you’re all done, and the cards are on their way. If you’d like other options, Funky Pigeon and Snapfish both offer similar services that work in the same way.
